Indications
Intestamin® is indicated for patients with limited enteral tolerance and in need of early enteral high glutamine and antioxidant supply.
- Post-surgery, post trauma patients at risk of severe SIRS and sepsis including
- Malnourished patients
- Patients with major abdominal surgery
- Patients with severe blunt or penetrating torso trauma
- Critically ill patients with severe SIRS or sepsis
Notes:
- To be used under medical supervision.
- Not suitable for children < 10 years.
- Not for parenteral use.
- The vitamin E content of Intestamin may enhance the effects of anticoagulation therapy in particular the effects of vitamin K antagonists. Regular control of coagulation is recommended.
- The vitamin C content of Intestamin may
- influence urine analysis
- promote iron absorption, which has to be taken into account in patients with iron storage diseases.
- increase urinary oxalate excretion which after prolonged application could result in oxalate stone formation in patients at high risk, e.g. with a history of stone formation.
